Royal A&P Show cancelled

RAS cancels Royal Show, Manawatu's Future rights also withdrawn

This year's Royal A&P Show that was due to be held at Manfeild Park in Feilding, has been cancelled.

This year's Royal A&P Show that was due to be held at Manfeild Park in Feilding, has been cancelled.

After a meeting between regional A&P associations this month, the Royal Agricultural Society told the Manawatū Consortium, which organises the show, that this year's event would not be held.

The Consortium, comprised of Manfeild Park Trust, New Zealand Performance Beef Breeders Ltd, the Manawatū West Coast A&P Association and the Feilding IA&P Association, was also told its hosting rights for shows between 2015 and 2017 had been withdrawn.

The three-day Royal Show was held at Manfeild in December last year but poor weather was blamed for a lack of attendance.

Last year's event was the first time a Royal Show was held in Manawatū since 2002.

The recent departure of New Zealand Performance Beef Breeders Ltd as a consortium partner had left Manfeild Park Trust as the sole primary backer, a situation described as "not ideal" by Manfeild chief executive Heather Verry.

Despite the lower than expected attendance rates, Mrs Verry said the show was a success for show class entries and attracted positive feedback from competitors and participants.

"I am sure the spirit of positivity and fraternity that successfully drove the united regional bid to bring this important event to Manawatū last year will continue to be expressed with other events at our venue."
