Queen, Adam Lambert to perform in Auckland

Rock legends Queen to come to NZ for the first time in 30 years

American Idol star Adam Lambert and Queen band member Brian May.

Rock legends Queen have confirmed they are returning to New Zealand for the first time in nearly 30 years, and they're bringing American Idol star Adam Lambert with them.

Queen and Adam Lambert will play one New Zealand show at Auckland’s Vector Arena on September 3 as part of the "Once in a Lifetime Tour". The tour will be the first Queen tour of New Zealand since 1985.

"Let’s rock those beautiful arenas just one more time," said band member Brian May.

The 24-date North American tour started in Chicago a month ago and received rave reviews.

The musicians first shared the stage during American Idol in May 2009 for a performance of We Are The Champions and though its been 23 years since the death of Queen's iconic frontman Freddie Mercury, the band has continued to perform with a number of big names.

In 2012 Lambert performed a series of shows with Queen across Europe as well as dates in Russia, Ukraine and Poland.

Referring to the late Mercury, Lambert said: "I'm honoured to be able to pay my respects to Freddie’s memory; he's a personal hero of mine, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band."

The musicians will play with support from MediaWorks radio stations MORE FM and The Sound.

Pre-sale tickets will be available from Ticketmaster and Dainty Group from 9am on Monday. General sale tickets go on sale at 9am on July 24.
