Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has confirmed that flight MH370 ended its flight in a remote part of the Southern Indian Ocean west of Perth, Australia.
Speaking to a press conference at 3am New Zealand time, Mr Razak said new satellite data revealed that the plane had taken the southern corridor route and crashed into the sea.
"It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you, that according to this new data flight MH370 ended in the Southern Indian Ocean," Mr Razak said.
Relatives shrieked and sobbed uncontrollablywhen given the news. Men and women nearly collapsed, held up by loved ones. Their grief came pouring out after 17 days of waiting for definitive word on the fate of the passengers and crew of the missing Malaysia Airlines jet.
Late yesterday Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, informed the Malaysian Prime Minister that two objects, one green or grey circular object and one orange rectangular object, had been spotted by the Australian search team.
The acting Malaysian Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein says it's possible the objects can be reached as early as this morning.
These items are still unidentified and not conclusively linked to the flight.
A press conference will be held later today with further details.
