
One person has died and two others have been seriously injured in a three-car crash near Hamilton this afternoon.
The Fire Service had to cut one person from the mangled wreckage.
A male passenger in one of the cars died at the scene at the Dinsdale roundabout shortly after 2pm.
Four people have been transported to Waikato Hospital with serious to minor injuries.
Emergency services are at the scene of the crash, where traffic diversions are in place. A serious crash investigation unit from Waikato Police will look into the crash.
The victim will not be named until his family has been notified.
HOLIDAY ROAD TOLL NOW AT 13
This afternoon's crash in Hamilton takes the holiday road toll to 13.
Seven people died on the roads for the whole of the 2013/14 Christmas/New Year holiday period.
The road toll period started on Christmas Eve and runs until 6am on January 5.
Last year was a grim one on New Zealand roads with 297 fatal crashes, up from 253 in 2013.
