Just one point sends sisters home

Duos cook separately this week on MasterChef NZ

Tauranga sisters Trudie and Shelley Robinson became the eleventh duo to leave the MasterChef New Zealand kitchen on Monday 7th April (7.30pm - 8.30pm) on TV ONE.

Tauranga sisters Trudie and Shelley Robinson became the eleventh duo to leave the MasterChef New Zealand kitchen on Monday 7th April (7.30pm - 8.30pm) on TV ONE.

In the previous episode, the Top Five had been shocked when they were forced to cook separately, and one half of each duo was given an hour to perfect a risotto.

In tonight's challenge, the second half of the duos said goodbye to their partners and were given a Mystery Box filled with dessert ingredients.

The pressure was on for tonight's cooks as their scores would be added to their partners', with the lowest-scoring team going home.

Going into the challenge, education advisor Shelley Robinson knew she was in trouble.

"Trudie is worried about her risotto from last night, so I feel the pressure to put something on the plate that's really good," she said.

Beginning work on a white chocolate and lemon mousse with raspberry sauce and white chocolate toasted coconut, she confessed it was a dish she'd never made before.

With the clock racing, plating the dessert became an issue, leaving Shelley unhappy with the 'rustic' result.

MasterChef New Zealand judges Simon Gault and Josh Emett were quick to notice, Josh commenting that the presentation needed more finesse, and Simon complaining about the lack of berries.

After judging, the duos were reunited and gathered together to learn their scores.

Trudie was singled out as having the worst risotto from the previous challenge, receiving a score of four out of ten from the judges.

"I know I've got the lowest score, and I'm prepared for leaving," she bravely said.

In the Bottom Two alongside Bec Stanley and Jaimie Stodler, Shelley learned it was the presentation of her dessert that had let her down.

"There were so many different plating options which would have made a massive difference," Josh told her.

Third judge Ray McVinnie gave Shelley a five for her work, taking the duo's score up to nine, but the sisters were devastated when Bec and Jaimie's total scored one point higher, sealing their fate.

Reflecting on their journey, Trudie and Shelley said they were proud of making it to the Top Five, and knew their children would also be proud of them.

"They'll be gutted that we didn't win it, and they'll be expecting amazing food when we get home, but little do they know - we won't be cooking for six months," joked Trudie.
