Two ferries will share the load of extra passengers crossing the Cook Strait today after Interislander cancelled the morning services for its troubled ferry, Aratere.
The Kaitaki and Arahura ferries will transport passengers previously booked on the Aratere until afternoon when services will return to normal.
Reasons for the cancellation are unknown at this stage.
Yesterday the Aratere's 6.45am sailing was cancelled on its first full day back in service, in order to prevent delays following months of repairs overseas to fix its broken propeller and cracks to both its rudders.
KiwiRail, which own Interislander, says that the ferry is losing about 15 minutes per sailing and that Interislander is working through its timetable to accommodate this lost time.
