Awatapu College students and staff were evacuated from buildings and classrooms yesterday afternoon, as the school's fire alarm was activated.
At approximately 1.15pm, College students and staff were evacuated to one of three assembly points where they stood for about twenty minutes.
It is not known at this stage whether the alarm activation was related to an actual incident or was only one of the College's quarterly fire drills.
One student was seen holding a placard worded 'The End is Nigh', but it is now believed to have been related to the College's Apocalypse Mufti Day, happening on the same day.
While waiting for reports on why the alarm was activated, Year 13 student Dale Woolley swung from a tree snapping its young branches. Staff were not impressed at Woolley's lack of respect for the environment and he was talked to by his Head of House, Angela Povey and teachers Elin King and David Nevin.
Everyone was dismissed at about 1.35pm and went to lunch.
