A man has been found dead in a car after a fatal crash near Massey University in Palmerston North.
The vehicle, a white Honda was reported to police about 8.30am, having it crashed through trees and down a bank on Tennant Drive, just opposite the university's Japan Lecture Theatre.
Cordons have been set up to divert traffic around the crash site.
Central District Road Policing Manager Inspector Dave White said one man had been found dead in a car after it was reported by members of the public.
The crash appeared to have happened sometime overnight
The badly damaged vehicle, a white Honda, was pulled up from the bank just before 10am.
White said police were speaking to a second person who is believed to have had some involvement in the crash, but he could not say what that involvement was.
Traffic is being diverted through the university's grounds, and police said the road would remain closed for some time.
