
Palmerston North's main police station has been cordoned off, amid reports of a drive-by shooting at the station.
The incident happened at approximately 9pm tonight and the Armed Offenders Squad was called out. Photographs online show one of the station's windows badly shattered.
Kayz Atwood said she heard from a police scanner, that a driver of a blue BMW was shooting at objects around the city.
Jordy Trethewey said that an employee at a Mobil service station could be injured, after a Mobil was shot at. He also heard from a police scanner, that the offender had popped three tyres from road spikes and was travelling at speeds up to 120kph, heading west from the city.
A large number of police patrol cars are in the area, attempting to capture the offender.
Meanwhile in the Palmerston North suburb of Highbury, Taine Noble and Eileen Phoenix told Mark Wasley News that there had been a drive-by shooting at the Highbury Shopping Centre.
Police could not be reached for comment, when contacted by the Manawatū Standard.
