Famed New Zealand musician Dave Dobbyn is returning to Feilding next month, for his third visit in four years.
The iconic singer-songwriter has today announced a concert at the Feilding Civic Centre on August 22, as part of his Open Up tour, after selling-out the venue in 2016 and 2017.
Dobbyn said he's welcoming New Zealanders' freedom to gather and is excited to take his band and behind-the-scenes team on tour again.
"I have the opportunity to open up our horizons again, to put the band and crew on the road and bond through real-life gatherings," he said.
"We are keeping it intimate for this run but it still means a team of 10 on the road and we can't wait to make connections and meet people.
"Loading in gear and packing out at the end of the night has never been more appealing for the production team!"
A mainstay of the New Zealand music scene with hit songs such as Slice of Heaven, Loyal and Welcome Home, Dobbyn said he will perform some hidden gems from his catalogue alongside much-loved anthems.
Dobbyn's musical career began in 1977 performing in bands Th' Dudes and DD Smash, before launching his solo career in 1986. His band will include his long-standing rhythm section of Jo Barus from Christchurch on bass and drummer Ross Burge from Auckland.
Christchurch musician Will McGillivray, formally of nomad, is playing support on all shows under the moniker Good Will.
Dobbyn, who has previously expressed his satisfaction in performing in provincial towns and cities, raved about his 2016 visit to Feilding ahead of his 2017 concert in the Manawatū town.
"It's always a great discovery [playing provincial gigs]. You go to a place like Feilding – we were there last year – and we were invited to the town square to have a gourmet lamb lunch with the mayor. There were speeches, the whole deal - a police escort out of the car. It was amazing!" he said.
"The theatre there holds 500 people, and it's beautifully kept. Beautiful leather, lovely seating, really good facilities - and they just go nuts, they love it. It's just really, really nice."
The nine-stop tour is almost entirely comprised of stops in provincial North Island towns. Opening on August 20 in Gisborne, the tour includes (additional to Feilding) performances in Gisborne, Waipawa, Whanganui and Stratford, before concluding at the acclaimed live music venue, Blue Smoke, in Christchurch.
The tour precedes what is already a busy second half of the year for Dobbyn.
The music legend heads to Auckland for his pre-announced 'Cauldron' mode concert at Spark Arena on September 12, before joining Th' Dudes on their ten-show Th' Bliss reunion tour in November and December.
Tickets for the Open Up tour go on sale at 9am on Friday at davedobbyn.co.nz.
