Dave Dobbyn announces rescheduled tour dates

Kiwi music legend on the road again

Veteran New Zealand musician Dave Dobbyn is ready to hit the road after the reemergence of coronavirus in New Zealand halted his original plans.

The iconic singer-songwriter announced his rescheduled dates for the Open Up provincial tour on Wednesday, including three new concerts in Rotorua, Te Kuiti and Taupō.

Dobbyn also announced an additional show in Stratford, to meet the demand for his Taranaki fans, following him selling out the 338-seat TET Kings Theatre when the tour was announced in July.

The tour will now open in Carterton on September 30, then Dobbyn and his band, which includes his long-standing rhythm section of Jo Barus from Christchurch on bass, drummer Ross Burge from Auckland and Taranaki guitarist Victoria Girling-Butcher, will perform at the Feilding Civic Centre in Feilding on October 1.

It will be Dobbyn's third visit to Feilding in four years, each time selling out the venue. Limited tickets for the 401-seat venue are still available after an initial sell-out.

Dobbyn said he's welcoming New Zealanders' freedom to gather and is excited to take his band and behind-the-scenes team on tour again.

"I have the opportunity to open up our horizons again, to put the band and crew on the road and bond through real-life gatherings," he said.

"We are keeping it intimate for this run but it still means a team of 11 on the road and we can't wait to make connections and meet people.

"Loading in gear and packing out at the end of the night has never been more appealing for the production team!"

A mainstay of the New Zealand music scene with hit songs such as Slice of Heaven, Loyal and Welcome Home, Dobbyn said he will perform some hidden gems from his catalogue alongside much-loved anthems.

The kiwi music legend's career began in 1977 performing in bands Th' Dudes and DD Smash, before launching his solo career in 1986.

The tour precedes what is already a busy second half of the year for Dobbyn, joining the Th' Dudes on their ten-show Th' Bliss reunion tour in November and December.

His 'Cauldron' mode concert at Auckland's Spark Arena, originally scheduled for September 12, is yet to be rescheduled.

All tickets originally purchased for the Open Up tour remain valid for the new rescheduled dates, with limited tickets now on sale for the originally announced stops.
