Kiwi chef Chelsea Winter has given birth to her first child.

The 36-year-old MasterChef New Zealand winner and bestselling author announced the birth of her son, Sky Leonardo Renall, on Facebook and Instagram.

Sky is Winter and her partner, winemaker and author Douglas Renall's, first child. Their son was born at the couple's Mount Maunganui home.

Winter said that she had a planned homebirth and that her labour lasted just one and a half hours, unusually short for a first baby.

Winter was doing "super well" she said and herself and Renall, 35, were "kind of bamboozled how they created something so perfect."

Sky was "a healthy bundle of pure deliciousness."

The announcement was accompanied by a picture of Sky clutching his mother's finger in his fist.

Winter announced her pregnancy in March, posting a photo of three differently sized measuring spoons to Facebook and Instagram and telling her nearly 400,000 Facebook fans and 63,000 Instagram followers that the couple had a 'little Chelsea bun baking away in the oven'.

The announcement came just weeks after she went public with her relationship to Renall, posting a photo on Instagram following a summer holiday on Great Barrier Island.

Winter split from her husband of four years, businessman and sailor Mike Bullôt, at the beginning of 2018.
