Scrub fire near Bunnythorpe under control

Shed saved after rapidly moving grass fire between Feilding and Bunnythorpe

The smoke rising from a blaze between Bunnythorpe and Feilding was seen from Watershed Rd.

Firefighters have managed to save a shed from a rapidly moving grass fire, believed to have started on the side of the road.

Fire services were called to the blaze on Waughs Rd, between Feilding and Bunnythorpe, just after 1pm today. The fire began in a line of trees along the fenceline next to the road, and bolstered by the tinder-dry conditions and the wind, quickly spread into the farm paddocks behind.

Deputy principal rural fire officer Bradley Shanks said upon arrival, they had one truck head straight for an implement shed, sitting in the paddock directly in the path of the fire.

They turned their hose on it in the hopes of saving it, and managed to keep the fire at bay.

It took fire services about half an hour to get the fire under control, having spread 100m wide and 600m deep into farmland. They will remain at the scene for some time yet ensuring it does not flare back to life.

Waughs Rd was closed while fire services battled the blaze. Shanks said they had yet to determine the cause of the fire.
