Rainbow's End Corkscrew rollercoaster traps riders at its highest point

Rainbow's End's Corkscrew Rollercoaster.

Rollercoaster riders experienced a tense fifteen minutes at Auckland's Rainbow's End this afternoon when the Corkscrew stalled at its highest point.

The park's chief executive Chris Deere confirmed the incident to 3 News, saying riders were trapped at the climb for around quarter of an hour.

A senior staff member was sent up a ladder to inform riders what was happening and the coaster returned to the station a short time later. The ride has been shut down while it is inspected.

Mr Deere said the ride is designed to stop if any fault is detected.

Video footage supplied shows the ride stopped at the peak of the coaster's climb.

There are no reports of injuries.
