
The second "moderate" earthquake of the day has shaken the Lower North Island, following a 4.9 magnitude quake this morning near Eketahuna.
A magnitude 4.8 jolt centred 40km south-west of Whanganui shoke just before 4pm this afternoon. The focal depth was 40km.
Nearly 2000 people have already submitted 'felt reports' to GeoNet from Canterbury to the Central Plateau, with many being recieved from Wellington to Whanganui and New Plymouth.
Many people took to Twitter to report their experiences of the quake.
Bart from Whanganui felt a "short sharp shock".
Lewis Holden, the National Party's candidate from Rimutaka in the Hutt Valley, tweeted "Not another one!"
Peter Hamilton in Palmerston North tweeted "Another quake in Palmy".
Federated Farmers tweeted "That was an interesting wee #eqnz in #wellington "take me home country roads" #agchatnz".
The quake was felt at Wellington Central Library, Tuatara Brewery, Massey University and the Palmerston North Central Library.
