Mental health assessment for missing man

Bulls man Stephen Walker found in hay barn

Stephen Walker has been found alive after he was last seen more than a week ago.

Missing Rangitīkei man Stephen Walker has been found alive in a hay barn, more than a week after he disappeared.

Manawatū police with the assistance of a member of the public found the missing Bulls man in the barn at the foot of the Ruahine Ranges just after midday.

Walker, 25, was in a "responsive state" and would be assessed by medical staff, including mental health professionals, a police communications spokeswoman said.

It was not yet known how he had survived for so long away from home, she said.

Walker is the brother of The Block NZ contestants Pete and Andy Walker.

His family were grateful and "incredibly happy" he had been found alive but would not be making any comment, the spokeswoman said.

Sergeant Andy Brooke said a member of the public was out checking their property earlier today when their dog alerted them to the presence of a person in the hay barn.

They called police immediately and Walker was located.

"I want to thank the public, local media, and Stephen's family and friends for helping us with the appeal to find him," Brooke said.
