Kiwi chef Chelsea Winter has announced she is expecting her first child.
The 35-year-old MasterChef New Zealand winner and author of five cookbooks, announced her pregnancy today to her nearly 400,000 Facebook fans and 63,000 Instagram followers, by posting a photo of three differently sized measuring spoons.
Winter and her partner, winemaker and author Douglas Renall, were "absolutely chuffed" to share the news, she said.
"Get ready for my sweetest creation yet... because there's currently a little Chelsea Bun baking away in the oven!
"Douglas and I are absolutely chuffed to announce we're expecting the arrival of a delicious bundle later this year.
"We're both just so grateful and über excited for what the future holds (lots of pureéing, probably)," said Winter.
Winter split from her husband of four years, businessman and sailor Mike Bullôt, last year. She went public with her relationship to Renall in February, posting a photo on Facebook and Instagram of them inside a small plane following a summer holiday on Great Barrier Island.
In 2017, Winter was criticised by some online for a Facebook post which appeared to be a pregnancy announcement but turned out to be a promotion for her fifth cookbook, Eat.
Commenters thought the post was insensitive to women with fertility issues.
Winter deleted the post a day later and replaced it with one saying, "Okay - I confess that this time, it's my new book EAT that's coming very soon (tomorrow!). Some of you saw through the sneakiness! And for the rest of you, thank you for all your beautiful comments. I'm touched by all your kind words. Please save them up, because I hope one day in the not too distant future, you'll need them for real. xx"
