Two dead in single-car Halcombe crash

Single-car crash kills two people north of Halcombe

Two people have died in a single-car crash north of Halcombe this evening.

A police spokeswoman said the crash happened about 7:20pm on the rural Pryces Line, between Halcombe Road and Makino Road.

A police statement said the two occupants of the car died at the scene, north of the village, in a "tragic accident".

Pryces Line is closed between the Halcombe Road and Makino Road intersections and diversions are in place.

The Fire and Emergency Service were also at the scene, the police spokeswoman said and the police serious crash unit is investigating.

A Pryces Line resident, who did not want to be named, said she heard sirens tonight.

The resident lives closer to the Halcombe Road and Kakariki Road intersection.

Although she heard sirens, she believed the crash was not at her end of the road.
