Seven of last night's 209 winning Big Wednesday first division tickets, were sold in Palmerston North.
In the final ever draw, run by Lotto New Zealand, there were no first or second division winners so the entire $15 million first division jackpot spilled down to the third division.
The drawn numbers were 2, 8, 16, 26, 43 and 44. The coin toss was heads.
The third division winners pocketed $87,272 each - the grand total of the first, second and third division prize pool.
Three of the Palmerston North winning third division tickets were sold at Pioneer New World supermarket while Inner City Post and Lotto sold two. The remaining two tickets were sold at Vogel Street Pharmacy and Melody's New World.
Lotto stores in nearby towns Levin and Taihape also sold winning tickets.
In Levin, two winning tickets were also sold at Levin Mall Lotto while Levin Lucky Lotto sold one.
In Taihape, both the town's two winning tickets were sold at New World supermarket.
Last night's final Big Wednesday draw was the largest number of players to share a first division lottery jackpot in New Zealand.
"We've never had this many winners of a first division jackpot before," said Emilia Mazur, Lotto New Zealand's General Manager of Corporate Communications.
"There's a real buzz in the air today with everyone heading in-store to collect their prizes."
Big Wednesday has finished to make way for Lotto, Powerball and Strike to be played on Wednesday as well as Saturday from next Wednesday, October 7.
Lotto New Zealand's advice for all of this week's Big Wednesday winners is to write their name and address on the back of their ticket and confirm their win at their local Lotto store.
To win third division, the 209 winners needed five of the winning numbers on one line of their ticket and either coin toss.
