Woman pleads guilty over Whanganui Hospital manslaughter

Whanganui DHB employee pleads guilty over hot car hospital manslaughter

Whanganui Hospital.

A woman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in relation to the death of a toddler who was left in a car in the Whanganui Hospital car park.

The charges relate to the January 16 death of a 16-month-old, who died after he was left in a vehicle on a hot day.

The Whanganui woman, 35, appeared before Justice Robert Dobson in the High Court at Whanganui this morning and remained stoic, staring straight ahead in the dock as she pleaded guilty to the charge.

However, no conviction was entered, and it is likely that the woman's lawyer, Debbie Goodlet, will apply for a discharge without conviction at her next appearance in June.

Her interim name suppression was continued.

She was remanded at large.

The woman is a Whanganui District Health Board employee.
